What to expect from therapy
The goal of Gestalt therapy is to restore a sense of well-being through greater awareness and to build stronger connections with self and with others. When people experience depression, anxiety, a sense of dullness, panic, typically what's happening is that early ways of coping and connecting are no longer working. As a therapist I help people understand and experience new ways of being which open the door to growth and vitality.
Through the authentic and nurturing relationship i work to create with people, we are able to lay the supportive ground to experiment with new ways of being and connecting, and people are able to let go of anxious and depressive internal processes.
When we integrate the parts of ourselves in conflict, a world of possibilities opens up to us, and the process is transformational. People are often amazed both by what comes up, and by the new possibilities in life that open up to them.
People come to therapy with this false idea that they are inadequate or somehow fall short. We are all bombarded with expectations and biases which would have us believe that there is something wrong about us. Paradoxically, people change by becoming who they are, and by recognizing what messages are coming from within and what is coming from without.
